Motorola XPR 7580e volume all over the place.
« on: November 04, 2019, 05:09:47 PM »

I work in a hotel for an in house AV vendor.  The hotel upgraded to these radios some time ago.  Unfortunately the mic gain and minimum output volume are locked and set to kill.  The volume at the ear piece was painful at minimum volume and voices are very distorted.

A few months ago we got our department radios reprogrammed.  Unfortunately all they did was drastically lower the mic gain on our radios.  The other departments still have their mic gain set very high, and since they can't understand each other they yell into the mics.  Our mic gains are so low as to be almost inaudible at the highest volume settings.

We are required to use ear pieces but the volume swing is unbearable and damaging.  Management's attitude is "we tried. you need to use them."  If I can provide an exact setting to change we MAY be able to get them to do it.  However I have not been able to Google up a full programmers guide.  Even at that I don't know what the current settings are.  Mostly I find what settings I should have as an end user, most of those have been locked out.  I am assuming they have some kind of limiter that can be enabled but have not seen one talked about.

Any one have any ideas?  They have Bluetooth enabled.  Any one know of an ear piece that will limit volume and boost really low speakers? Can I reasonably buy software and a programming cable? I know, it's a political problem and my hands are mostly tied.

Thank you.

We use Mototrbo radios. There is an audio option to set minimum speaker level which can be configured all the way down to mute. There is also an audio environment setting that when set to loud adds a 6dB boost to the output.

We have found the Automatic Gain Control for mic gain to work quite well at levelling users of different volumes and accessory types.

I will get some screenshots from CPS later but they are easy changes on the general and accessories settings pages.

Thank you.  I'm still working on getting the programming software and cable.  Life will be so much better once I can just make the changes as needed.  Apparently it's a huge service call charge to make minor changes.
