install audio interrupt
« on: November 04, 2019, 09:56:54 AM »

I'm looking for a solution to interrupt audio from multiple outputs of a mixer, to amplifiers, when a signal is sent or dry contact closed.
I know most DSP ebgines will do this but that is more processing than I really need. A new product is required.
The mixer is an X32 rack so I'm trying to figure a way to trigger the mixer to mute or "duck"
Thoughts or suggestions?

I'm looking for a reasonably prices solution to interrupt audio from multiple outputs of a mixer, to amplifiers, when a signal is sent or dry contact closed.
Thoughts or suggestions?

What's reasonable, is used OK, and how many is multiple? Pretty much any of the 8x8 building block processors will do mutes on contact closure.

Under $1000 8 channels. Don't need a lot of DSP, just signal interrupt.
I modified my question as well.

A used Ashly 4.24C or D unit would do this handily and for probably under $500

That sounds like a feature that may be in some APB mixers.

IIRC it was for safety alarm announcements.

Exactly!
I'm trying to see if I can make the X32 to do it without the need for more outboard gear.

Are we talking about life safety? I wouldn't let an X32 or any end-user-configurable device do it.

Real cheap? Run the main L/R output through a relay, when the fire alarm goes off boom, relay trips.

Does it just need to mute all program audio or do you also then need it to put the emergency
announcements into the PA system?

If you're using an X32 rack, you should be able to assign each of your output busses to a DCA and then remotely trigger that DCA through MIDI.
