Custom dolly for single 18 (vrx918)
« on: January 11, 2020, 05:00:45 pm »

Looking for pics, suggestions etc of a dolly for single 18 sub ideally 2 stacked with a lid of sorts

Want to 1. Have ability to stack cases in the truck 2. Protect grills from straps 3. Not do the tip dance on a dolly when strapped

Thanks all!!

Uline has some, or build your own with the features you want.  It's basically plywood, carpet, bolts and wheels.
Bigger wheels roll better, but take up more room and raise the CG.

When stacked on their sides the VRX918 subs will fit in a 22.5 x 30" dolly.  This dimension is one quarter or one third of a 92" truck width.  24 x 30" dollies will work as four wide packs in 92" trucks and 96" trailers.   If all of your racks, cases and dollies are the same size it makes for a very safe and fast truck pack. We long ago stopped putting speakers in cases. Everything rides on standard size dollies with soft covers. Stacks that don't create their own solid top surfaces like wedges use a 22.5 x 30 top board to make a sandwich that the ratchet strap contains.  Huge weight saving and much less need for dead case storage.

If I'm not mistaken don't those subs already have threaded inserts and bolts to install wheels on the back.

You would want to get covers as they would be traveling grill up and you could not really stack any more on top of them.

You would need to get good casters that would not rattle.

This is exactly my thought all cases are some multiple of 22.5, 45 etc. Put a top plate with wheel cups in case 3 high stack is needed (it is)!!!

Riley do you have any grill protection of sorts other than soft cover??

Mike they do but riding them grill up means plywood to stack on or something and they are not true 22.5x30 dimensions

Added bonus if we make our own dolly we can ensure overall height of 2 high matches a double stack of cases ... I hate an oddball height too!!!

Goal is 1 stap at the back of the truck hahahhaa jk !!
