It was fun today moderating the AES panel on production intercom over IP, and seeing old friends (as always happens at AES) and meeting in person for the first time some PWS friends. So, thanks to Brian Maddox, Joe Foley and Brian Ready for participating on the panel, and Ike Zimbel for attending.

Jason Glass's panel earlier in the day on advanced practices for RF deployment was very informative and covered a lot of very technical information, thanks to Karl Winkler, Jim Dugan. Cameron Stuckey, and Gary Trenda for a great session,

Tomorrow starts with a discussion of grounding and power distribution by Bruce Olsen and Bill Whitlock.

I'm really looking forward to the AES@NAMM panels next year. There's always so much useful information to digest. Ike did a great job hosting the wireless sessions last year.

AES comes at one of the busiest times of year for me and I can't afford to lose 2 weeks of income on top of the expense of attending in either of the most expensive cities in the USA.

Maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to attend before I retire.  Haven't renewed by membership yet, either.  Is the "upgrade" still a thing?

Yep, good panels, good times, good to meet Mac and Brian and see Jason, Karl, Jim, Gary, Cameron and Henry Cohen among others. Glad I flew in for the day (and boy are my arms tired... )

Thanks Tim! Looking forward to doing it again next year. Take note that the whole Wireless Academy thing is now going to be a one day affair, Saturday January 18th.

I took Bills grounding class in the early 2000s.  If you think you know "grounding", then take his class and realize how little you actually know.  I know it happened to me.

My big "takeaway" was a couple of points, and it has made my life basically "hum free" for the last almost 20years.

MAN, I wish I had known/understood those simple concepts earlier in my career.  It would have been MUCH better for me, with a lot less stress on gigs.

"MeatSpace" was my takeaway word from the whole experience.  I was gonna ask if it was spelled meAt or meEt, but now i know.

So great to meet [meAt?] some folks who have helped me SO much in the past on this and other forums.  MeatSpace is the GreatSpace [shame that doesn't rhyme].

[And yeah, i actually asked Ike what he "did" after he introduced himself to me because i blanked on his name and now i feel like an idiot because of COURSE i know what Ike does.  i've learned SO many things reading posts from him here.  Sorry Ike. 

Thanks to Mac [and Henry] for asking me to participate.  It was a lot of fun.  It was my first AES, but i don't think it'll be my last.

With relatives in the city, lodging isn’t my issue (Tim, you are welcome to crash with us). The fact that all the good stuff occurs during the work week is my issue. I can’t be there Wednesday-Friday. So, end to my AES. Yes, I too have not re upped my membership.

To those who are not re-upping AES membership: There is a thing called "Life Member" where, if you are at least 65 years old and have paid membership for 25 years (recently changed so that non-consecutive is OK), you get free annual membership and free full-program admission to the Conventions but not Conferences. Forever.

So factor that into your thinking about whether it's worth it or not.
