Hi all,

Looking for recommendations and experiences at the moment. I usually have to rent in anything wireless, and I think it'd be good business practice to have something of my own that would cover most of those rentals.

Use cases:
- Passed around for wedding speeches
- Singers that insist on wireless

ie, some professional and some amateur users.

My current vocal mics (and I don't see this changing any time soon) are all Sennheiser e935s, and I like them.

I'll often end up using an e935 for wedding speeches, and find them to do well - even in the hands of a complete amateur (one lady folded her arms, putting the mic at her left shoulder), I can still get enough level to make sure the speaker is heard.

So, I'd like to stick with the e935 capsule, and I recognise the buy once, cry once mantra. So, I'm thinking of the G4 EW500 model.
The EW100 looks okay, but I don't like having easily-accessible controls on the mic - there's almost a guarantee that the control will be tampered with at the most inopportune moment.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

Performance wise...all ew the same. 100–300-500...same pcb’s...different programming.
The 935 may not be available on the 100...945 also a peach.
I believe you can lockout the mic buttons

Yep, 935 is available on the EW100. I'm rather surprised the internals are all the same - there's a £300 difference here.

The capsule itself costs $200 compared to the $100 835 capsule, which comes with the 100 series.
The 300 / 500 series have increasingly more channels per group to choose from (more simultaneous wireless devices).  If that's not an issue, save a little and get the 300 series.
The 935 is better for poor mic technique.  The 945 is almost feedback-proof.  I use the 300/945 with a switch for my MC mic.

I rarely work in complex RF environments - most of the time, I only want one wireless mic for weddings etc. It looks like the EW100 will be fine, then.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to end up regretting picking the 100 over the 500 in the longer term.

The 100 has even fewer channels per group, but it sounds like you won't need them anyway.  You'll be happy.  Get some eneloop rechargeable batteries and you won't need to keep feeding it AAs.

Initially the 100 series only had trs outs and no rack kit.
300 brought xlr and rack kit with, as stated..programming to permit larger and more diversified user groups. 500 had all the above and more programming and premium capsules. Now here in US all ew kits come with rack ears.

Well, an EW100 G4 with a 935 capsule is on its way. I'll report back once I've had chance to play with it a bit.

It's landed. Connection seems solid, and it sounds like a 935. Can't argue with that.
