Seems like 2 wrongs do make a right??

Good point about a questionable plug contact with the tester...  I only use these 3-light testers as a quick preliminary check.  They've found some issues in venues, but when something like this comes up, I do question their results.

I've got a lot of spare Bryant receptacles lying around the house; I'll change it out this evening and test it.

Thanks.

I had an old 2 wire outlet in my bedroom and noticed the plug getting warm to the touch from an auxiliary heater plugged into the outlet drawing single digit amps... Old outlets can go bad in multiple ways (like high contact resistance)...

I had intermittent contacts in the outlet by my washing machine, perhaps from decades of high humidity. I upgraded the washing machine outlet to GFCI for obvious reasons.

Good Luck..

Trust but verify.

Maybe it's my turn to come along and say STOP! Figure out what's going on, and fix it. You don't even know that it's "low voltage". Only that the current is limited to a level that does not cause a serious shock -- for now.

I'd start with the building wiring to make sure it is beyond reproach. Then check bonding throughout the audio system. If this doesn't make sense get a qualified electrical person to troubleshoot it. Good luck . --Frank
All microphones are connected to the XLR PIN1 to the housing
This means that even if your mixer is grounded
Once you touch any device that has leakage but is not grounded
and touch the microphone through your hand.
that current flow between your dual hands....
So it’s important to keep your equipment grounded.

Issue resolved.

Duplex receptacle replaced.  The old receptacle was broken (internally) around the grounding pin.  My contactless voltage tester does not indicate any voltages at the mic or around the board (unlike before).

Thank you for all the input.

Here is the next problem waiting to happen

Who thinks that hanging a bunch of weight off outlet plugs will end well?

Surely someone will make an iPhone case with a flipout plug and a built-in charger.
