NYC Repack?
« on: July 18, 2019, 01:37:24 PM »

Anyone have any information on the major networks moving down in NYC? A friend called me to tell me he saw a scroll on CBS that they were moving to ch33(?) at the end of the month.

CBS in NYC is currently on 33 and moving to 36 in this Phase 4 period, ending Aug 2. Any day now . . .

More to the point for your concern - they will likely be testing the new transmitter on its new frequency before they officially make the move.

Is there any place that gives that information like the link you included and also shows what frequencies they are on now and what the new ones they are moving to on those dates?

I talk to someone at Shure about a month ago asking for a list of where the stations in my area SW CT. are moving to and they said that due to something with the FCC some of that is still in flux.

I was working with a church that was adding some wireless IEMs and I wanted to come up with a frequency coordination that would be good before and after the repack transition. I have come up with what I hope will work for them for a while.

Rabbitears.info is probably the simplest and best place to get all the available data in various correlations. It is however, only as good as the various FCC databases from which it draws the data, and those databases are not maintained as well as they used to be, but it works for the most part.

Unfortunately the FCC has not yet finalized the disposition of all the low power TV and translators, so that may present an unknown for what you're seeking.

NBC, CBS, FOX, & Telemundo have all announced to customers to rescan their TV's at 1:00pm on Thursday August 1st. I would suggest avoiding pre-repack and post-repack spectrum band for all TV channels relocating in phase 4.

Here is a link to a page on my website that shows pre-repack Spectral data and calculated spectral data that represents predicted post-repack spectral data. You can use this data to find "safe spaces" during the transition.

For those of you in the NYC metro area, or planning on stops here, Paul's website is a great detailed look at the RF landscape, both current and post repack (phase 4, which concludes Aug 2, and Phase 9, Mar 14 - May 01 2020).

Boston Globe today said broadcast stations here will move this week too. These would be the towers off I95 in Needham. CBS, ABC, Fox, PBS and others.
Told people to rescan.
