Last-minute project, help!!!
« on: July 17, 2019, 12:57:28 AM »

A client want to install some lighting in his RV (BIG LED wash lights), and he wants to control them via his phone. Nothing fancy, just manually change the colors. Any suggestions? This is a bit out of my comfort zone, and I only have a few days to make this happen.

If he's dead set on using actual DMX fixtures, Luminair is probably his best bet (unless he's on android). Keep in mind he'll still need a DMX interface that supports ArtNET for this option. He can also get one of the wifly/mydmx/d-fi setups, though it'll cost significantly more than a basic ArtNET interface hooked up to an (probably) already existing wireless router.

If he just wants to change the color of the lighting inside, tell him to invest in a bunch of Phillips Hue bulbs.

+1 on Philips Hue as long as they can be powered by 120v. Everything else is a science project.

Would Bluetooth work?  Flexfire RGB led strips.  They will help with the design and component needs on the phone or live chat.  An option anyway.

I second the Bluetooth suggestion.  There are a number of off-the-shelf solutions you can choose here.  Good luck!

He already has the fixtures, and they are IP65 RGBW-UV wash fixtures ( 120x18w), so it has to be DMX. Not certain if he has Android.

In that case get a mydmx/wifly module. It'll run ~$300 depending on what brand you go with but it's a standalone deal and has apps for ios and android.

Yeah, so far the biggest cons I've heard about them is that the range isn't that great (shouldn't be an issue in this case) and they have a small number of channels available (half a universe? Really?).

Installed IN the RV, or on the exterior of the RV?  Just curious...those would be way serious lights for interior use. (Or there is a typo in the number of individual LEDS in each fixture. 😳)

Looks like the ADJ Airstream DMX Bridge is going to be the solution, as he has an iPhone.
Mark, it's not a typo. Exterior use. This is the fixture:  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32831414613.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.3c9d4c4dJgEaly

Thanks for the response.  That would be worth seeing some pictures of when the RV is all lit up.

Will be installing 10 of those fixtures to light up his outdoor paintball fields of play. They have some paintballs that are fluorescent, and look really cool under an intense UV source.
