What are these Yamaha speakers?
« on: July 03, 2019, 10:12:10 AM »

Can anyone ID this speaker?
Two of these old Yammie speakers are mounted (oh so securely) about 20 feet up a gymnasium wall.
One sounds like it has a failed tweeter.
I'd like to see if I can find replacement parts
Note the rectangular ports on the bottom.

By the time you find parts, go on site again, and get it sort of working - you could almost replace them, safely, with something decent.  I don't remember the model but have worked with those.  Replacement is the only fix worth considering in my opinion.

I feel reasonably certain that those mounting straps aren't rated for that use. Wouldn't touch those except to replace.

That's a Yamaha Model S4115H Mk. II. You can download the manual here.

The JA4207 horn & compression driver might have been made by Sunn, using the predecessor 4115H's JA4201 as reference. Good luck. Edit: Doesn't seem to be Sunn, not sure where I got that idea.

Edit: attaching S4115H specs

REMEMBER, as soon as you touch the cabinets, you "own" them.

Meaning that if anything happens to them in the future, such as falling down, all they will remember is that YOU were the last one to touch them, and YOU possibly made something loose that caused the failure.

I WOULD NOT look at replacing just the HF, but ALSO at mounting them properly.

Or else WALK AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: Found a local repair shop (Austin Speaker Service) who had an original Yamaha replacement diaphragm/coil assembly in a drawer. He installed it in the horn, we put the horn back in the speaker without dismounting it. All happy now.

So, basically you just assumed liability for someone else's crappy rigging job?  To save the client a few hundred dollars? Or did you re-rig everything in the process?

As most have mentioned or didn't mention because it was assumed - a blown driver is minor compared to safety.
