Live Sound Hacks?
Simon Barz:
Hey guys!
Curious if any of you guys have found any unexpected "household" items that can be repurposed somehow for live sound applications (ie. on the road, in the shop, load in, etc).
Always on the lookout for useful hacks!
Tim McCulloch:
I guess I fail to understand the new use of the work 'hack', which invokes images of cut corners, incomplete anticipation of needed tools/materials/technique; or of some kid in his mom's basement trying out scripting exploits.
edit ps: in 35 years of pro audio, theatre and staging work I've seen all kinds of things repurposed. Almost without exception, in their raw form, these were insufficient, ill advised, made poor customer impressions, or ultimately were unsafe. That's not to say that re-purposing things is without merit but that refinement will be needed before going live with them and that often by the time you're done, you could have paid for the specific and purpose built items you needed.
Buy one, cry once. The wrong product at the right price is still the wrong product.
Dave Scarlett:
It's been discussed here countless times but if you're into spooling up your cables the reels from Home Depot/Lowes do the job for me.
Lyle Williams:
Pillowcases for cable management. Keeps them sorted and stops them turning into one huge tangled mess.
Get lots of different colours so you can tell them apart. Write the contents on them in huge sharpie letters.
Scott Helmke:
Old used golf club bag for mic stands.
