Interfaceing Radio (walkie) to Mixer (PA)
« on: June 07, 2019, 07:09:01 PM »

I have a request to get live radio (walkie) conversation over the sound system for a que in a show, not a problem with a DI box, the thing is when it receives it starts with a loud thump!

Any thoughts on how to eliminate this?  disabling the PL code or something?

thanks

High pass the channel and try a fast attack and release, hard limiter setting in the channel compressor.
Not sure about the gate. If it doesn't open with the "thump" it seems unlikely to open with the voice.

Or, if you can. Do it manually? Read off the meters when the "thump" is over, then pull up the fader?

Set the threshold low enough to open with the voice but let the slow attack catch the pop. Should work fine.

Clever - the pop opens the gate, but the gate doesn't open fast enough for the pop to actually be heard.

Got me thinking...might try that out for another application I have.

Could not get this to work, My desk (Studer) only goes to 5ms attack time,

I will try to adjust the radio setting or will try to get them to prerecord the section
