I had less use for those back in the day when the PA rolled off at about 10k anyway.  Nowadays is a different story.

Low pass filters are a great way to keep cymbals out of everything else.  Most of the time you can go as low as 8kHz before you really notice any high end going away.  Drives me nuts when it's not easy to add one on the fly.
