If bet the harshness is coming from using the wrong HF selection switch.

The VRX rig has been around for almost 15 years, there is alot of Love & Hate with this rig.  Out of the box without the proper DSP settings, it’s less than desirable; but throw some basic Harmon DSP settings and the rig smooths out.

I have started working at a brand new venue with a brand new VRX rig, which is being processed by BSS and powered with Crown.  Each show its slowly getting better, couple tweaks here and a couple tweaks there.
Good to have you back, Matt.  (better late than never...)

I know what you mean, when working with a given rig over time, with a little smarts and patience, one can whip *nearly* anything into shape. When facing a one-hour gig on someone else's rig, one makes the best lemonade with the ingredients immediately available.

It seems much more controllable with external amp and processing than an internal DSP (or lack thereof) and how the speaker comes set from JBL.  A whip and a little time to tame the VRX lion.

They do seem to be a favorite love-to-hate-but-makes-copious-money-so-i'll-buy-more type of box.

I had to mix on one VRX rig shortly after they came out, the only smile on my face was when our set was over.

Does my assessment square with anyone else's experience with these tops?

Thanks, JF, for a very direct answer.   ;)  Sometimes, one hopes they're wrong.
Not every speaker can be on the same side of the bell curve, I guess...  ::)

VRX 932 over VRX 918 - Harsh?

Take the title of your post, remove the question mark, and replace it with an exclamation mark !
In fact, remove VRX932 and you can replace that with any of their other models.
