Disposing of Audio Technica D band (650-680) gear
« on: May 22, 2019, 09:53:32 AM »

Facing up to reality for my AT3000 D band (650-680 Mhz) systems.  I can salvage the racks, Furmans, drawers, XLR looms, lavs and BNC cables, but I don't want to pitch the receivers, transmitters and antenna distribution units in a landfill.  Anyone know of (preferably local to 20190) recycling or other disposal options?

Kirby,

There are several metal recycling yards in your area.
The line cord , cut off, will be worth more than the rest of the unit, but at least the stuff is not going (directly) to a land fill.

I was sad to see my working ADAT machines sitting next to broke appliances, but got a few cents for them, though their multi-cables brought in a dollar or so..

So - question for the rest of the forum...

Is "D" band legal anywhere else in the world?
If so, maybe int'l eBay with them picking up shipping may be a (slightly) better option than electronics recycling.
If push comes to shove, my neighborhood has special electronic recycling days.  I'll be willing to dispose for you if it comes to that.  No money, but they do break the stuff down.

Some parts of Europe can still use it, but from what I've seen they may be moving towards a similar shift as the US. I know the UK had a big 700MHz buyout a couple years ago, and I think that's starting to creep into the 600MHz spectrum as well. Latin America can also use it, so there's two pretty popular regions if you're willing to deal with international shipping.

There are two ways to do anything:
1) Do it right
2) Do it over until you do it right

Depending on what your future wireless needs and purchases will be a lot of companies have trade in rebates on old 600mhz equipment at this time.

True, including Audio Technica, but the rebate value is pretty much a token amount ($75/channel) in my case.

I believe the trade-in period has ended for pretty much any major manufacturer.

I think the Audio Technica offer was extended.
Their $75 is a token amount but maybe not too bad depending what it would sell for on Ebay and then factoring in the Ebay and Paypal fees.

600MHz is alive and well in most of the world.  The US move does make me nervous, but that actually encouraged me to buy used from the US, instead of new from a local retailer.  It would be reckless to budget on getting 20 years out of 600MHz where I am, but 8-10 years is probably doable.

Can you send me a link(s) for sites where I might post a sale notice please? Perhaps you might be interested in picking up seven channels of Audio Technica AT3000, include handheld and bodypack transmitters, antenna combiner, LPDA antennas?  VERY reasonable pricing.
