Which processor for EAW LA460's?
« on: April 02, 2011, 04:17:28 PM »

I know another 'which processor' thread. I'm sorry.

Our old XTA is only two way and we wanna bi-amp. I'm looking at:

Omnidrive compact
EAW MX8700/8750
Older EAW MX8000 maybe?
Driverack 260
Soundweb 9088

I gotta buy used and I've been scared off by what I've heard about soundweb failures though they sound perfect for the venue. Also I'm aware the the driveracks 'have a sound' but the 260 is a good unit. I've also heard Yamaha makes a nice DSP.

Thoughts?

Whoops, for some odd reason I read that as the LA400.

If it was me buying I would try to go with an EAW processor if the budget is there. Of course you could just buy something to run the subs and use the XTA just for the tops.

That's not a bad idea. I hadn't thought of that.

Is the EAW processor clearly the best sonically on the 460's like they are on some other EAW boxes?

You need to use the processor for which settings are available for your tops.

What DSP's would come with LA460 presets? I'm only aware of the newest EAW DSP unit having presets for "all their products." Every other unit you just program to EAW's tunings correct?

After a quick check (since this thread reminded me to look and see if there had been any updates to the greyboxes) I'm not seeing one for the LA460.

You'll probably have to just input the settings from EAW's site manually.

There was a post on the EAW forums saying that they were not going to write Greybox presets for the 460.

Marsellus,

I dunno. EAW certainly made a processor at some point for that box, DSP or not.
