That's slick.  Now just need to find a way to lanyard that shell to the cable so i don't lose one on Every Single Show....

These are not exactly the same, but you won't loose the cap!

Yeah, as you've said by far the simplest way is just to use the ethercon joiner barrel, and on the outgoing side use a small 1m or 2m normal ethernet cable. We do this all the time and works fine.

Far better than taking things apart.  Every time we take one apart at work some one loses the ends or the tab gets broken off when the hands pull the cable before it's properly packaged.

Yeah don't get cat6 Ethercon cause it's not compatible with cat5 or cat 6A, 6E or 7 but all other Ethercon is compatible with eachother.

Used to be true but now Neutrik have changed things so the age old "it depends" is the answer to that.
Newer CAT6 Ethercons are compatible with the older CAT5 ones and not compatible with the first generation CAT6.

As far as pass throughs go, the CAT5 ones are not very robust with an exposed PCB on the back that will break off if you look at it funny.
The newer CAT6 variety however is all metal and virtually bomb-proof, so much so that I carry a bunch of them them loose for just the purpose the OP requires.

This is the one you want, not cheap but does the job perfectly.

That's not quite right: all Neutrik CAT6 EtherCONs are incompatible with CAT5e EtherCONs; however, their CAT6A EtherCONs are compatible with CAT5e EtherCONs.
