Unusual Sennheiser EW500 G3 battery use
« on: May 04, 2019, 06:54:43 AM »

Hi All,

we have a number of Sennheiser EW500 G3 mics, and one has just started really chewing batteries much more quickly than the others. at first i thought it was just a failing set of rechargeable; however a set of brand-new procells dropped the first bar after only half an hour of use. all our mics are on the same frequency band, and set to normal transmit power. is there anything else that could be causing a high battery drain?
thanks
Brad

Phantom power on a handheld..?
It's the only thing I can think of that isn't a fault.

Sometimes they just fail. I had a similar thing happen with an EW100 G3 handheld transmitter. Everything just worked fine, but it was using up batteries much faster than the other handhelds.
I measured the current consumption with a lab power supply and ammeter, it turned out that the current consumption of the broken handheld was much higher than the other ones.

Since it was still under warranty, I send it back to Sennheiser. I believe they swapped the main board.
