EWDMX / WDMX Compatibility
« on: April 29, 2019, 03:08:40 PM »

We have a bunch of Elation Platinum Spot 15r Pros that have EWDMX receivers built in. The Elation EWDMX transmitter is $800+ but I’m wonder if I can use any WDMX compatible transmitter such as the Blizzard Lightcaster (~$300) which appears to use the same Swedish antennas. Anyone have any success using anything other than the Elation transmitter?

Okay well I just answered my own question. I rented a W-DMX transmitter from 4Wall to test this out and it worked.

For anyone else with this question: An official W-DMX (from Sweden) transmitter WILL work with Elation fixtures. You do not need an Elation transmitter (contrary to what Elation tech support will tell you).

I used a G4 transmitter for this test but I believe my Platinum spot 15rs are old enough that they would work with any gen of W-DMX.

Older gen W-DMX transmitters are available on eBay cheap while the Elation version is $800+ and looks a lot more cheaply built.
