Huh. Alto discontinued their SXM112a.
« on: April 15, 2019, 07:07:17 PM »

I was speaking with a friend the other day and he mentioned Alto had discontinued the SXM112a, their 400w active 12" coaxial monitor.  Just looked it up - in their legacy section.  Too bad.  It was a pretty good $300 monitor in a birch cabinet.

I recall this being mentioned in a past topic and someone pointed out that this monitor is also badged and sold by Samson as the RSXM12A. Still sells for under $300.

Yes I have one,  it doesn't have as many DSP presets but the amp module is same OEM, cabinet dimensions nearly identical and on stage I can't hear the difference.  I intend to pull the drivers and compare.  Need to get some more.  We have 12 of the Alto and no failures, the fans are wonky but it never affects operations.

Hi.

I recently bought one of the Samson version (RSXM12a) wedges.  Most of the cabinet structure is ~1/2" MDF.  Bottom and baffle are ~1/2" plywood.

Here's a link to pics I took on opening it up.

Note: On the Samson user panel, there is a switch labeled "Monitor/FOH".  "Monitor" setting is useful.  Not sure about "FOH".

I think you have bought everyone's used ones here, including mine.

ROFL, I haven't taken that Samson apart either yet.

I just bought two more from another member!  I had all 12 at a corporate just two weeks ago.  They make great confidence monitors.

Over the winter I am going to properly paint the back all black and hardwire the eq switch.  Right now we just gaff the back and never had an issue with hear.  I just rue the day someone doesn't do this and I see a giant Alto on the imag, I will probably just dig a hole and die on the spot.

This Turbosound coaxial is about to be restocked. I'm guessing it will be better than the Alto, at the same price.
