Leviton CS series advice?
« on: March 24, 2019, 11:29:14 PM »

I'm building cables to connect my 50 amp LEX 240/120 distro. I'm using 4/4 SOOW cable in an effort to "do it right."  Does anybody have tips or tricks to ease getting the plugs and connectors properly wired?  I seem to be struggling getting the green wire to fit smoothly into its assigned clamp. I'm using Leviton CS 6364 and CS 6365 wiring devices, and Southwire "Viper" cable. It is a real PITA, but maybe it is just a learning curve thing.  Thanks.

Those sound sort of like the Hubble connectors.  On the Hubbels, I ended up having to cut the green wire about 1/8" shorter than the others to get everything to fit when inserting the wires.  Also, you may need to exercise the "floating" part of the clamp (the tab on the inside of the clamp) with a small screwdriver.  On a couple of the openings on my connectors, the "opening" area was restricted due to the floating-tab not moving up/down with the screw.  Once I moved the tabs, they were fine.  I used 6/4 SOOW on my connectors.

One thing to consider is that most of these connectors install easier on one end of the cable vs the other.

4 / 4 is tough to get into a 6364 or 6365. It all has to line up right the first time.

And we can't risk wasting a "strand"

Having stripped out the set screw on the ground wire, I will be getting a bunch of 6/4 and save myself from frustration. Maybe after working with 6/4 I'll try some 4/4 and have better luck.

6/4 almost jumps into place compared to working with 4/4 in a CS series connector.
