Turbosound Madrid- any real world users out there?
« on: March 22, 2019, 01:40:21 PM »

I'm currently muling over a possible monitor change, from my current JBL SRX 812p's to something a bit more discreet looking for smaller stages and corporate work. Ideally they'd have enough output for some of my larger shows as well (think outdoor, APEX3224 events with mostly C-level acts). The beloved and discontinued SRX 712m is my target in terms of size and output.

Lo and behold, Turbosound has a lineup of boxes akin to the old SRX 700 series, including a box similar to the SRX 712m. Specs look good and the pricing is attractive, yet there aren't any opinions or reviews from actual users to be found on the web.

I was able to find actual pics of the box I'm eyeing and its internals. The components look decent enough to my eye, but I'm no loudspeaker designer.

So here I ask, are there any real world users here that can comment on any of the boxes in the Madrid lineup?

I've seen posts here stating that you can still purchase new SRX 712's - special order. Have you looked into that?

I don't think you can just buy a "handful" of boxes.

I like those SRX712 boxes, but hard to justify 1k for a passive wedge when you can get a powered DSR112 for less money.

I would be super curious as well how these Turbo Madrid boxes sound in comparison.

I was going to post earlier but decided against it. After seeing a few posts that mirror my thoughts I guess I will support them. There are a lot of used and NOS SRX 712M's that can be had for roughly the same cost as the copies you're looking at. The TMS is not so much a bad box as much as it is a tribute box. It is like the real thing, but it is not the real thing.

You can get the real thing for roughly the same price. So may as well get the real thing. I don't think you are seeing many reviews about the TMS because those who really want that type of box will simply get the real thing. Same price after all. The TMS is priced out of the entry-level market really. $900 + for a passive speaker isn't exactly screaming take me to the average guy. Those who know what they are looking for and are willing to spend that price already know to look for the SRX 712M. The 700 series has been out of production for over 5 years and you can still find brand new units......... Makes you wonder. JBL is obviously shipping them out to a few vendors and keeping them in the market.

If you want the SRX 712M, get the 712M. If you just want the small form factor like the 712M, find another speaker that is not a copy and I think you will be happier. The Turbosound is likely not a bad box, but it is a copy, so why not look for a better more original offering?

Thanks Luke, you make a great point. Although, besides the SRX712 boxes in the eBay listing Debbie linked (I swear that wasn’t up on the site last night!), I haven’t come across many others in new or like new condition lately. It seems like people are holding on to them, for good reason. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough.

That said, I am still interested in hearing from anyone that’s actually heard any of the Madrid stuff. The TMS122M can be had for considerably less than $900 (map is $699 here in the states- expect an even better price from your favorite dealer). It stands to be a great deal, if it’s anywhere near as good as the old SRX 712m it’s inspired by.

Hi Michael

You might want to hold off that eBay purchase as they might be china copies. Ask for pictures of internals
