Commercial exterior RGB LED structure lighting
« on: March 22, 2019, 09:15:54 AM »

Are the IP65 rated ADJ & Chauvet fixtures suited for this?  My primary concern is they will be exposed to direct (and reflected metal roof) Alabama sun.  Will that cook the electronics or de-rate the LED life?  Even on white versions?
Are there any good "White Papers" on the subject?  Couldn't find any discussions here or on the general web (hard to search when the best key words aren't known).
At this point I don't know if they want dusk to dawn, or just up to 6 hrs per night.  Beam angle and lumens/lux requirements are down the road.

Thanks,
David

I've had excellent experience with Elation's outdoor fixtures. https://www.elationlighting.com/exterior-outdoor
Also some great fixture recommendations on specific projects from Jason at JR Lighting Design.

If this is for permanent install, you'l probably want commercial lighting. The IP rating only speaks to dust and water ingress protection, not to 24/7 durability.

Plenty of manufacturers make outdoor cove and wash lighting designed for this purpose. I would be hesitant to use entertainment lighting for permanent install.

The arcitectural expectation is that all the lights will work flawlessly without maintenance for 20+ years in the weather.

Zero hope for entertainment fixtures IMO.

Not a comment on anyones architectural product at all.

Just a comment that the entertainment space wants products optimised for the entertainment world.

A company/designer can certainly design fixtures optimised for entertainment, or optimised for architectural, but probably not design something that is ideal for both.

So there will be two product lines addressing very different markets.

Look at SGM.  That’s going to be more expensive but are fantastic exterior fixtures.

Disney has lots of D60 exterior fixtures from ETC

Color kinetics is on top of the Empire State Building.
