Driver suggestions
« on: March 19, 2019, 07:50:14 AM »

I picked up a pair of Celestion CXi 1022HP on sale for cheap, it's a horn+2x10" box.

I've been thinking about retrofitting these with newer drivers, the box is fairly well built but the drivers are not that great.
I can squeeze a RCF HF950 horn in there (just), so I need some quality 10" drivers to go along with it.

Each 10" has a separate chamber, roughly 16L with two circular ports 40mm long/45mm wide.

Any suggestions?

Update.

I played around with some drivers in WinISD and it looks like RCF MB10N305 is a good match.

I did not know Celestion made complete systems, there are only raw drivers on their website.
-Try some of theirs too, they make some really good sounding cast-frame neodymium & ferrite pro stuff, (not just stamped-frame guitar speakers)

If I had my time again, I'd do it the same - 2x Faital Pro 10FH520. High sensitivity, and sound great even at 1KW per driver.
The FH530, IIRC, is the ferrite version. Heavier but cheaper.

Look at the B&C 10MD26 high sensitivity mid bass speaker.

Where do you plan on crossing into these cabinets?
If you plan on crossing into them at a 100hz or so the ports could be sealed off.

I'd keep the ports - free air exchange with the outside world means things can stay a bit cooler under high power conditions.
