Anyone Work with Kris Kristofferson recently?
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:01:18 pm »

Hi Kids!

So I just got a call about being monitor boy for a Kris Kristofferson show.

Working with octogenarians approaching 'living legend' status can be a wonderful experience.

It can also be a living hell.

He's been doing quite a few shows lately. Has anyone had the pleasure of working with him?

Yes.  I worked rehearsals for a Joni Mitchell birthday tribute show back in November.  He performed at it and I worked his rehearsal with the band when they dialed in his monitors.  He was extremely nice and easy-going.
I think you should have a good experience.

I've worked with him a few times. He is very easy going and has basic monitor needs. He also Is a good tipper. Never had a artist tipp me before but he has done it twice...
So I think you will have a easy jobb there!

My experience is not recent, but K.K. still had most of his hearing, was very cordial and pleasant to work with.  He's smart guy, too, and don't be surprised if he strikes up a conversation about current events or history.

He is a Rhodes Scholar. He is also very nice. And he has a wicked sense  of humor.

I did a solo show for him at a theater a couple years ago. 2 wedges on one mix from doubled channels at FOH, one mic plus a spare, one DI plus a spare. Soundcheck lasted maybe 2 minutes at the most. I never had a chance to talk to him, but he seemed alright from 150' away. It was maybe the easiest show I've ever done, and as reported, his manager gave me a nice tip at the end. It was a good night for everyone.

His manager warned me before the show that fans often try to get backstage, and oh man she was right. I don't think I've never seen so many people trying to sneak past security. One woman somehow made it backstage and I ending up being the one to escort her out. She was very obviously high AF, and went back into the house peacefully. Afterwards there were a couple hundred people, mostly older women, waiting by the bus parking to catch a glimpse and maybe meet him, not realizing that he was already fast asleep on the bus and definitely wasn't coming back out. It was an interesting night.

I love to read stuff like this: artists I have always admired and although I have never met Mr. Kristofferson, I would guess he was nice guy - he comes across that way.

He also gives out money to audience, usually to a bloke that looks like he's been dragged along my his better half. TM said he's probably given out hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years!

I was a monitor tech on the shows I did with him. Nice simple (but quality) show.

Most importantly:

It was one of the most honest, transparent, and soulful performances I've had the pleasure to witness.

Yep, just worked with him a last week, I believe. I'm the house guy at a performing arts center. Everybody on that tour was cordial. They used house PA and we did monitors from FOH. I stayed on the deck with an Ipad remote acting as a monitor guy. No one asked me for anything during the entire evening. The monitor level was kind of quiet and they were happy.
