Any more info on the Yamaha DZR-315 ?hi all,
« on: March 05, 2019, 12:26:26 PM »

Hi all,

There is still, not much info about the Yamaha DZR-315. Yamaha claims it has a max output of 143 db, how can i compare this to Apogee 3x3’  max SPL of 138 ?

That's a strange comparison to make, a 97lb vs 270lb speaker, a single 15, 8, 1" vs 2x15 horn loaded, 2" compression driver on lg format horn, 1" comp driver on tiny horn. The 3x3 is maybe 25 years old the DRZ brand new.

It will be hard to compare specs, but as printed the DRZ at 143dB vs 3x3 at 138dB makes the DRX look impressive.

Nah, if we're still looking at the BS Max.SPL rating, we need to use the 152dB rating of the Apogee.

At least the DZR's 143dB is claimed to be measured, and we have to assume the 3x3's 138dB is measured. The 3x3's 152dB is clearly not measured being the Peak Transient Mechanical Limit.

Having used the 3x3s many times I can attest they got very loud.

If I use the peak power into each section and the stated efficiency (presumably the average across the intended band) of each section to calculate the peak acoustic pressure of each section and then sum the acoustic pressure peaks (which is what the microphone peak would measure), I get 147 dBZ peak from the LF and MF sections (the HF is insignificant).  Their 152 dB (PTML) may include a 5 dB local peak in the frequency response that could contribute to the BS peak.

DZR series HF drivers use a 2" diaphragm with a 1" exit.

Hi, well the max listed SPL don’t differ
to much !  And as you said the Yamaha has 25 years of innovation, so maybe technology has caught up, in a way that with less they can produce almost as much !!!

That’s what I want someone to explain to me.specifically someone that has worked or heard both loudspeakers.
