DMX lighting and Video projection software reccomendation
« on: February 25, 2019, 09:03:23 AM »

I am in need of DMX lighting software that also plays videos to be projected on a screen.
MIDI controllable, Mac based and inexpensive would be a bonus.

We are a club band that runs a full light show using the Luminaire app currently. We are considering adding a 4K short throw projector to play videos on a screen behind the band. I'd like to be able to have each songs light sequence and video programmed and then be able to step through them using a foot pedal (Airturn).

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks

I'm just getting in to pc or Mac based lighting, currently using Luminair3 as well.

I'm currently looking at the following:
Show Buddy (midi control) and Show Buddy Active (dmx, formally DMXIS)

The latest version does video and has a simple 2D visualizer. Available in pc and Mac.

I work with a band that uses Show Buddy to play their tracks and video. Every song is sync'd to the MTV video and played back on (2) 65" screens behind the band. Seems to work well.

Chamsys MagicHD?  Packaged with MagicQ lighting control software.

I have yet to play with it, but as I use MagicQ, MagicHD is on my "must get around to trying that" list.  Midi integration requires chamsys hardware, which is quite expensive (cheap for a pro console, but still thousands...)

I have found Ableton's video capabilities to be great and it can send MIDI notes to any lighting package.  We use Ableton and Showxpress.

Hey Steve,

I use midi control (via USB footswitch) with both DMXIS and now Show buddy active.

You only need show buddy ( without active in the name) for running backing tracks to sync with the lights/video.

Correct, but you need either Show Buddy active or DMXIS for dmx lighting.
