Author Topic: I'm getting a lot of crackling/static and hum from my 3.6mm splitter...  (Read 1502 times)

Four questions:

1.  Would a basic 3.5mm Ground Noise Isolator stabilize the voltage and thus successfully remove the humming & crackling I hear?
2.  If "yes" to 1. -> where in the line do I need to add it?
3.  Will using such a device lower the audio quality?
4.  If yes to 3. ->  What other solutions are there available to routing my microphone audio to two separate PCs?

My setup:

Baby Blue Bottle SLR Microphone -> Presonus Mixer/Preamp -> 1/4in to 3.5mm adapater -> 3.5mm splitter -> 3.5mm microphone jacks in two separate computers.

1/4in to 3.5mm adapater -> 3.5mm splitter -> 3.5mm microphone jacks in two separate computers.
First need to determine how this adapter is wired.
I would also recommend a USB audio device(s) for audio into the computers and not use the microphone jacks.

Hi Keith thanks for your assistance.

What would you like me to tell you about how the adapter is wired?

For now: My temporary solution is to just hook the Presonus Mixer into my Stream PC using the USB cable, and use my headset mic for my gaming rig.  I'm not sure I could hook the Mixer into both PCs using USB though (I suppose I could try running multiple USB cables, but I don't think the mixer is made for it).

is this a commercially bought splitter or did you make it yourself?
What is the brand and model?
What brand and model computers?
Exactly what kind of connections are on the connectors?  See diagram below.
