HDMI switcher + 7.1 Audio Breakout
« on: February 14, 2019, 08:05:03 PM »

Searching for a product that will switch between 2 - 4 HDMI Inputs AND extract & output 7.1 analog audio to feed into a system processor.

This relates to my other thread here:
https://forums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/topic,169951.0.html

I now see the need to switch between multiple HDMI sources.  I'd like to have the video switcher handle audio switching as well, so that the the DSP can simply accept 8 input channels and route them accordingly.

I see HDMI audio breakout devices like this one:
https://www.gefen.com/product/hdmi-hdmi-plus-audio-converter-GTV-HDMI-2-HDMIAUD

But these don't do HDMI video switching, and the switchers I've found all seem limited to stereo audio out.  Does what I'm looking for exist, or am I better off to use a switcher and a separate audio breakout?

Thanks!

Check out the denon pro avr stuff.  Switching and processing plus XLR out.

FYI the Marantz stuff which is sister company to Denon these days and probably shares the same back end is REALLY slow to switch HDMI sources.  If you're looking for a faster or seamless switch source then this probably isn't your ticket.  It does look like an interesting piece of kit though.

I remember looking for a similar piece of gear before and striking out.  Finding an 8 channel HDMI decoder is tricky too, most stuff is just stereo out.  I ended up going a different way so I never found anything.  Please post up what you end up using for a solution.

I use a QSC Q-Sys core 110f as my preferred DSP (I even personally own one) and it irks me that it has a HDMI port on it yet I can't just connect a HDMI cable and input 8 channels of audio that way.  I could completely ditch my AVR and clean up some client spaces if it did.
