Arc Flash in Slo-Mo
« on: February 06, 2019, 06:42:50 AM »

This is pretty terrifying. An arc flash is basically a bomb that can go off right in front of you, quite literally in your hands. Wear your PPE, people!

That was you!!??

I'd be curious to see that flash in real time too.
Sometimes slo-mo down-plays the violence of the event.

Initial visual flash to smoking ruins is probably on the order of <5 seconds.

What's not shown is this video is the force of the blast wave; the dummy must have been well anchored.

I was wondering about that, as it seemed that the dummy should have been blown backwards.
No, not you John.

Pretty sure this is the same company/test lab-has some full speed and some slow.

The original video is a relatively mild arc flash-the manequin appears to be dressed for a Cat 2 or maybe 3 event.  Guess I'm not surprised it wasn't blown back-a person would have reacted and bailed out most likely-though that is not always a good idea when dealing with energized conductors!
