Letting my CTS-I lapse
« on: February 19, 2019, 01:43:30 PM »

I got a CTS, then a CTS-I certification from AVIXA (formerly InfoComm) at my previous job as a contractor, solely because some bid opportunities required it. Made deal with boss: If I pay for individual membership dues, he would pay certification fees.

Now I work directly for a school district as an A/V service tech. Nobody cares, nor ever will, if I have this cert, nor will anybody ever offer to pay for it. In short, it holds no value for me anymore.

So I let it lapse last month, despite about 200 emails from AVIXA reminding me of the deadline. Removed the designation from my signature line here.

Does CTS/CTS-I/CTS-D certification mean much to you?

I let mine lapse. It didn’t add a penny to my bottom line.

I'm so old, when I was doing FOH for Tommy Dorsey, to balance out the horn section I would slide their chairs downstage and upstage to mix!

Seems like it's just a foot in the door for AV techs looking to work for a big integrator. Might have some ratchet int eh home theater industry or on the install side.
