Keith Flint, singer of The Prodigy.  London, age 49.

That's too damn soon.  RIP, Keith.

And now Luke Perry, following a stroke.  At 52.  That's too damn soon, too.

I was 14 when they released Music for the jilted generation.
In the name of all that's holy, WHAT an album.
Add in The fat of the land and you basically have the soundtrack I listened to for years.

Hal Blaine has passed away at 90.  He came up with the name "The Wrecking Crew" for the famous group of studio musicians in the '70s.  In the statement from his family, "May he rest forever on 2 and 4".  There is a very long list of hits he drummed on and people he worked with.

The world lost Kyle Yorlets of the upcoming band Carverton in early February.  His life was stolen from him at the young age of 24 in Nashville Tennessee.  I had the privilege to work with him from 9th grade as one of my students all the way to the last month of his life.  One of the last shows he ever played was to come home back to Carlisle and grace our stage as an alumni and blew us all away.  My friend was the most gracious musician I've ever met and worked with and I've worked with alot of international gems.
The lost is still over whelming 5 weeks later . . .

As a fellow engineer to this industry, the life we walk is bitter sweet.  The sweet is unparalleled when entrusted to hold these artists in the tip of our fingers.  The bitter is when we have to say goodbye and left with only the beautiful haunting sonic memories of those moments when a show found everyone in the house tied together.  25 years into this profession and there's nothing I would rather do in life.  That quote from above posts is true.

Do your souls a favor . . .call or text your favorite local artist if you can and remind them what their passion and determination means to you as an engineer . . . as a fellow human being.  Life changes in the blink of an eye and its all too short.  Without these creative folks, our passion to mix and do what we do would be stuck without wheels.  For that I will always owe . . .

Peace my fellow audioKnights

Sorry for your loss and point taken about appreciating what is in our immediate orbit.

To add to the bad news list, Dick Dale passed away yesterday:

Wow. RIP Leon Redbone. I can't believe he was only 69. I'm 69, I would have bet he was older than me.
