230-volt potatoes
« on: December 28, 2018, 08:13:18 AM »

Holy crap...
I recently had one of my friends tell me all about "free energy" so I looked up this video about using a pair of potatoes to generate 230 volts. Perhaps only one potato is needed for 115 volts, but I'm not going to try it since working with a live potato would require that I purchase new PPPE (Personal Potato Protective Equipment) rated for hot potatoes. It also appears that the trick to making these free energy devices work is a hot glue gun instead of solder. Whoda thunk?

Great!

I remember seeing something like this in the 80's move "Roadie".  Though, I thought the potatoes in the movie were used as a resistor...

The "magic" on this is the base of the light bulb.  When the bulb is initially glued to the "board", there's nothing around the base... however, at the end of video, there is a base around the bottom of the bulb.

Where is the money coming from for the widespead promotion/advertising of these videos?

Why would someone fund this?

This particular video has nearly  4.5 million views, so it's basically click bait. How much does Youtube pay you for a video with that many views? Well it used to be a lot more, but I've snooped around a bit and depending on how many advertisers are embedded in the video it might generator around $500 per million views. So this silly little video could possibly pay who ever created it maybe $2,000 or so. Create one of these videos a week and it's pretty serious income once the views begin to build up. Not bad for an hour's work with a hot glue gun and a false claim of free electricity, but don't use this to fund your mortgage or your kid's college education.

This one is even better because it uses really big ball bearings, a LOT of hot melt glue and a capacitor:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2q_UwD2bvE

Note that this video has had over 614,000 views in less than a week, and 388,000 people are subscribed to their Youtube channel. Crazy, isn't it?
