Are Colored Preamps Over?
« on: December 16, 2018, 05:09:26 AM »

With so many saturation and preamp emulation plugins available, are we cutting our options when we use colored preamps? api, neve etc.  Isn't it better to come in clean as possible and then dirty up the sound as you please?

Brad,

As a  studio guy, I can tell you that it is MARKETING! Performers, Engineers, and Studio Owners think that if they have "that per-amp" or "that mic" or "that console" it will make them rich, famous, or whatever. Somehow, TALENT never comes into the equation. I'm still trying to figure that out.  Now, I know MONEY has made a few people famous, but their talent level is uh....lacking. In My Opinion.
