Network tech needed in Parsippany NJ
« on: November 19, 2018, 02:17:40 PM »

I know many of you are also have some connection to IT.  I am looking for someone to trace down some issues on about 20 drops in a commercial building in Parsippany NJ (about 30 miles from NYC).

If anyone has any recommendations let me know.

Just saw your note Scott. If you still need assistance, I have quite a few IT specialist friends who live and work in NJ around that area.
Apologies if it’s too late (was out of country for the last couple of weeks l).

I'm nearly 3000 miles from Parsippany, but here's some common issues to look for:
  • Too much jacket stripped and/or pairs untwisted too far back. Increases noise and crosstalk.
  • Mixed pairs. Just because it's wired the same on both ends doesn't mean it's wired right. The + and - of each signal line must be on the same pair: there is no "common" wire. Otherwise, it's crosstalk city.
  • Mid-run splices. Just because you've got continuity doesn't mean high-frequency signals will pass. Echo Canyon!

Being in the Telecom industry, I'd expect you to be very familiar with these issues, Scott. I guess I'm pointing this out for everyone following along

May want to start with an experienced low voltage installer who has the tools to properly qualify the cabling install.

Thanks guys.  I was just trying to toss a bone to a forum member before I looked for a local vendor.   Going to give Will a shout.

I am in Cleveland and that office is full of engineers but their job is not to be a network tech!
