touring BTRs/ wifi console network ubiquiti
« on: December 06, 2018, 03:45:46 PM »

Although I've been doing this for years without issues,  this week I was told by Bosch/RTS/telex rep I could not use or even bring in our BTRs to this particular country as these systems have not been accepted for use by the general public or are reserved for the military, (could be confiscated! and user fined etc...) and, that my network (Ubiquiti USG4 and AP) setup for remote control of my audio console (using ipads for monitor adjusting etc..) had to be switched to international with the specific country code.....our units are US/CA and cannot be switched..it's a small tour a few weeks in several cities, I've been told by ubiquiti rep to ask for replacement units from our distributors...so I need 2 kits one for when we're at home approved for US/CA and another (international) for the rest of the world ?...

We must've carried our own wifi (cisco netgear dlink ...) for the last 10 years I've never switched my networks before and  asked to ....

Anyone care to chime in on this?

thx

Can you be a bit more specific about what countries you are going to, and what range BTR's you're carrying?
I've been to the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan this year and haven't encountered this type of issue.

Interesting. I believe my Ubiquiti Nanostation can be set for any country, are you certain yours cannot?

E88/Israel , I've been to Paris last year and Oman just a few years ago and did not have issues.

We've canned the BTRs and will use wireless comms supplied by the venue. but the wifi thing is really a surprise...

ALL BTR BANDS will soon be illegal in the usa except for E88.  The statement about military is totally wrong.

That may get interesting and not just for RF. It's been a while for me but certainly in the past, some middle eastern countries haven't been particularly happy to see israeli stamps in passports. Hopefully, you've got that covered.

As I understand it, the FCC is reluctant to certify Wi-Fi gear that can be made to work on non-US Wi-Fi channels, so Ubiquiti makes one version locked to the US channels, and one version for everywhere else that allows you to select your country.
