In cases where your drummers will change from time to time, overall volume is an issue get a GOOD electronic kit and call it done.
Better than building a monolith in the middle of the stage, consistent drum sound, depending on the sound person easier to mix.

I'm going to say it again "98% of your congregation could care less or even notice that you use electronic drums. But they would all notice if the room volume gets out of control from mixing around an un "caged" drummer."
