I'mma buck the trend. I like the Audio Technica 915ML. Good reach, better rejection than the FM100.

I'm a fan of the AT 915ML too. Good for loud award shows and better GBF than the Shure MX412/C for example. It's tight pickup pattern is also it's achilles heel though IMHO, off axis is very coloured.

Many of the suggestions are mics with an XLR connector that need to be plugged into a base.  What base is customary for situations where drilling a 1" hole in the lectern du jour wouldn't be appreciated?

I use the Shure A412B for a weighted base as mentioned further up in this thread.  I like the angled connector - I think it looks better than the ones that point straight up.  They’re available with and without a mute button.
