Does Rational ever run like Black Friday or end of the year sales on their software?

Not that I know of, however, if you take the class you can get a pretty nice discount. Great class and the discount makes it much more affordable.

I bought my License through a third party at a discount over the prices on Rationals site.   It's been years but i think i purchased it though Northern Light and Sound.

Taking the class is necessary to get the most from the software. You'll learn an overwhelming amount about audio & measurement at these classes, plus have the opportunity to ask questions and network with fellow students. Not to mention getting a discount on the Program. Totally worthwhile.

I need to take it again.  I'm waiting for the next one in the area.
I didn't use it right away so a lot of the info leaked out of my head.

If it is the same version there is an increasing discount on every consecutive class... heck Jamie said that at the point of the 4th class that he was cool with it being free, with exception of covering food... a "repeat offender" discount.

I'll put in my call to Jamie.  I've taken the class twice, first in 2004 with Jamie at EAW, then about 8 years ago with Harry Brill in Tulsa, hosted by Justice Bigler at Tulsa PAC.

Honestly I don't use Smaart much these days as I'm not working at the transducer level any more (no proprietary systems) also in most of our venues the loudspeaker placement changes almost nada so I'm using the same numbers I measured 'way back when.'  There are also a fair number of BEs that want to do their own L/R/S/FF alignments so I get to observe.

But I need to take the class again just to keep up with the UI and improvements.

Optional story:

Had a BE spending a lot of time on sub/main alignment so I finally asked him what problem he was finding.  "I can't seem to get the right delay time on the subs, nothing seems to be just right."

Optional test:

What do you think the problem is, and how would you show it to him?

I'll bite, I'm not afraid to fail.  ;)

Some assumptions first.
-BE knows they can't fix it everywhere just one spot.
-BE knows they shouldn't try to use the delay finder on the subs
-Noting is broken.
-Mic is in an ideal/correct position for desired results
-xover is already set properly
-I'm assuming the phase response of both the subs and mains at/around xover aren't so different that its difficult to align properly
-TOF between mains/subs is relatively the same

My fix?
Try to delay the mains instead of subs because the LPF has already introduced group delay on the subs.

If we remove the xover is set properly and phase response assumptions then...
It might need different xover slopes/values or an all-pass to help smooth/align the xover region.

Am I close?

Yepper.

I finally had him go to the impulse response, enlarge it, and identify each.  The lighting guy said he saw a lightbulb turn on over the sound guy's head... but the main PA was head of the subs.  After delaying the mains back about 4.5ms, he also found they lined up pretty well with the front fills... (Hmm.  I wonder how that happened?  8) )
