Soundcraft Si Expression -run at 44.1k?
« on: November 01, 2018, 08:33:17 pm »

The board's specs mention alternate operating clock rates but I didn't see it addressed in the user manual.
I was wondering if it can be set to run at 44.1 instead of 48k.
Thanks

Thanks. What I saw presumably was referring to following external clock then.

Why would you want to?

Just a convenience step. Recording gigs, starting in the 'end sample rate.
No 'converting multi-track files, and keeping DAW projects (where they would be imported and mixed) in 44k.
Not a huge deal, but after going through a hand full off the AH QU, it would be that much more straight forward.

(For what it's worth I was lightly considering leaving the QU home -and plugged in!, and having something dedicated to grab'n go live.

I actually run my ProTools at 48k.  I played with 96 but it was glitchy on my computer.  48/24 sounds better to me and the end product sounds better to me downconverted than recording at 44/16 natively.  I think there's more headroom in the mix bus at 48/24 (some of which got people doing that out of the box summing thing for awhile).  When you get down to 2 track, the conversion seems to hurt it less.

Don't know if saying 44/16 was intentional, but I haven't used that bit depth since back in the first DA-30 DAT era.
I prescribe to the 'moving a mic +/- a few inches matters tenfold more than 41.1 vs 48k. :>)
