LM44 question.
« on: October 23, 2018, 04:35:30 PM »

About to purchase another LM44, but I’ve asked this question that no one seems to be able to explain.

Earlier this summer I learned via Dante network you can pass your inputs over to a secondary LM44.  However, this was done via a switch.  If it’s simply two units do you have to have a switch? Can I take two small cat5e jumpers between main and secondary and accomplish the same results?

Yes, you can.

You only need one cable to make it work.

So is it normal, for people to “Y” the analogue inputs of the LM44’s? What I’m trying to accomplish is if my desk does, a preconfig’ed mix from MON world could get us through the rest of the show.  My desk is going in via AES, so if it loses the AES it should fall back to analogue.  I’m carrying two units, simply put outputs will be L/R/Sub/FF then I need outputs like lawn feeds, lobby feed, etc.

I haven’t had a show stopper gear failure since I moved digital, my last piece of gear that failed during a gig was an analog desk, so I don’t do anything like that.

However, having a backup plan is never wrong.
I’m running my SD8 on a UPS, not because it has failed me, but if I loose power it uses quite a long time to reboot.

It’s been three years since I bought that UPS, that was also the last time I lost power during a gig.
