M32 advantage over x32 with B stageboxes
« on: October 17, 2018, 10:53:51 AM »

If I am going to be using S16 stageboxes, is there any real advantage buying an M32 over a full size X32?  I really don't see myself forking out the money for the Midas stageboxes at this point.

I like the layout a lot better.  Just the angle of the control surface.  Is that worth the price difference?  Depends on who is paying.  :)

Sonically?  Nah.

The full 10 year warranty for M32 vs the limited 3 year warranty for X32.
The M32 has the "better" build quality.
You may prefer one layout over the other.
Rider-friendliness.

Is FOH coming out of the desk or out of the B stageboxes?  If out of the desk, then you are coming out of the "better" outputs.

X32 and DL stageboxes, if you want to spend more and have a slight audio improvement.

The Midas stage boxes are where the money is at. If you have an X32 and run it through a Midas stage box, you get the Midas preamps in your X32. If you run a Midas mixer into a B stage box, you get the preamps from the B box. So to me, running an M32 into a B box is not worth it.

I've talked to a few guys that say there is no sonic difference between the X or M32. I have a couple of X32's but only because the M32 wasn't quite ready when I bought them. The M was my first choice.

Are there any tests that show that the M is an improvement over the X other than the layout and better faders?

Having used both for a few years now, I'll agree with Brian that he lay-out is much better on the M32, especially if you are sitting.  With the X32 you really need to stand to see the display and access the controls easily.  I hear only slightly perceivable differences in sound (both are pretty good).  The push buttons and faders have a much better feel on the Midas, but at half the price the X32 is a real deal.

Thanks so much. Looks like just what I need for an informed rebuttal. Thought the preamps were better but didn't realize they have better converters.

Really wish it was available when I pulled the trigger.

I hear a very slight sonic difference between the X32 and M32. I own both and of course had to do an A-B comparo. The M32 has a warmer sweeter sound to it, but the difference between them is very slight. When I say very slight, I mean you actually have to sit there and nit pick it. In a blind test, I think I could tell which one was which, but it would be very tough to do it.
