Hi all,

Has anyone on here heard the EAW RSX129, RSX12M & RSX218? I find myself looking to move away from my SRX700 series boxes with big heavy amp racks. A friend of mine has some that i can possibly take out for a demo, i just don't know when that time will arise. The Rsx129 comes in a 90 horizontal pattern, but they also have the 126 which is a 60. My Srx rig has worked really well for me. Looking at possibly moving the Srx rig for something newer and more efficient. Maybe this is just a case of GAS, but any input on these boxes would be great.

As you're a JBL shop already, is there some reason you're not looking at the SRX800 series?

I have looked and them and know what to expect from their products. My friend can most likely beat the JBL prices as well. I like to have as much info as possible before i make any moves.

Maybe I'm not interpreting the active specs correctly, but for the rsx218, it shows a maximum power of 1400 watts; is that peak?  If so, this probably puts the cabinet around 700 watts RMS and 350 watts continuous.  Even with 1400 watts peak, I actually would expect more power out of a dual-18 from EAW.  I am a fan of EAW, but these power ratings seem a bit low.

Hi Steve,

I've owned and used RSX126(2), RSX129(2), RSX12m(4), and RSX18(2) for about 18 months. I've been very happy with them in terms of output, sound quality, and power/weight/current consumption - very friendly on a 20 amp circuit. In particular, the wedges have been *very* popular with the performers who have used them.  The boxes are easy to deploy and the DSP works well - you can quickly change the voicings to match the need. One consideration would be what your scalability requirements are. For SOS applications I have been very happy - and that satisfied the DB requirements for the gigs I took them to - all live performances by rock and horn bands in bars and country clubs where I was expected to cover up to about 150 people. If you need to scale beyond that you would probably need to consider the RSX line array options. I went to a demo at Anderson Sound in Harrisburg, PA and was amazed at the sound quality from a pair of hangs with 4xRSX208's with a RSX12(sub) on top. From about 15 feet away and further I couldn't "hear the box" - the sound image was detailed, coherent, and very satisfying.

The RSX (and entire RADIUS catalog for that matter) is quite robust. Hearing is believing, and we were sold on the RSX208L arrays over every other offering in the segment. The sound was cleaner than RCF and nowhere near as shrill as JBL when pushed hard. We ordered 8 elements as soon as we got home from Infocomm and plan to get more in the coming months along with the RSX218 subs.

The point sources and wedges are equally impressive. Plus they can all be modeled in their Resolution software and monitored/tuned in their Mosaic app and are DANTE ready. Really hard to beat.

I was thrown off by that as well, but have been assured not to look at those specs because listening is believing. The JBL SRX828sp is rated at 2000w peak, so 1000w rms and 500w continuous. Would we hear that difference in wattage?

Just an observational swerve.....I am confused.
Isn't continuous the same as RMS - Root mean square = the maximum  continuous power a speaker is capable of? The only 3 terms I am aware of are 1) RMS, 2) program and 3) Peak.

Am I missing something?

My understanding matches yours Debbie.  Continuous, RMS, AES, all the same....and the only one even worth looking at.

Oh, and maybe a 4th spec,  the REAL one IMO....1/2 RMS...the very upper limit of gear sounding worth a damn !!!

These days AES is synonymous with RMS, Program is 3dB above that, Peak is 6dB above.
