Here's something interesting that I saw at the Hershey RV show. It's an intelligent soft starter for air conditioner compressors. Apparently it works by using a high-frequency variable duty-cycle square wave to feed the starter capacitor/winding. You teach it the peak current available from the generator by doing a series of compressor startups, which it uses to learn the amperage draw. They've sent me a demo unit which I'll try out once I get my demo rooftop air conditioners. Yes, lots of new gear to play with...
