CL5 and SB168-ES
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:12:25 PM »

I'm attempting to get a CL5 to communicate with the older Ethersound-equipped Yamaha SB168-ES. The three players in this setup are the CL5, the SB168-ES, and the MY16-ES64 card (which gives the CL5 Ethersound capability).  The switches on the card are set as instructed by the manual.  The SB168-ES stage box works with the old M7CL console.  And I can't get the CL5 to sync with the SB168-ES.  Has anyone had experience in this setup?  TIA.

Eric,

I have successfully installed the Ethersound stage box with a CL5 several years ago. Here is what I remember.
The MY16-ES64 card needs to be installed in slot 1 on the CL5.
You will need to install Auvitran software and use AVS control panel and possibly AVS monitor. Here is a link to the software,
https://www.auvitran.com/software/

That is all I remember about the installation. There were other steps such as setting the proper audio and remote directions within the Auvitran software and configuring the SB168 head amps in the CL5 I/O section, but I don't have the console close by. Coincidentally, I will need to install the same SB168 into a CL5 in the next month.

Here is a Yamaha document that goes over some of the steps to interface the SB168 to the CL5,
https://jp.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/798483/cl5_3_1_en_rm_e0.pdf

Hope this helps,
Steve

Eric,
I am sure you have already configured the card but I now that I have recently transferred an Ethersound card from a MCL-7 to a CL5, I will add additional instructions that may help someone in the future.

The main adjustment that needs to be done is to tell the card where head amp control will be. This is done via Auvitran AVS monitor. I had to use a version from 2016 in order for the software to see the card and the stage box. I assume I could have upgraded the firmware in the card and perhaps the stage box in order to get the latest version of AVS monitor to work, but all I needed to do was to change head amp control from Mini YGDIA D-Sub 9 pin connection to Mini YGDIA Slot Internal Connection. This option is location in the control tab view of AVS monitor.

Steve

Thank you, Steve.

I just successfully connected Yamaha CL1 console to two SB168-ES stage racks via MY16-ES64 and one MY16-EX. It works, with redundancy!

Get the correct version of AVS Monitor here: https://www.auvitran.com/avs-monitor-release-notes/
You should download version 5.8.23 (from 2016 as stated already) if you want it to find devices.

All you need to know about setting it up: https://pt.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/322423/ethersound_setup_guide_en_v1.2.pdf

The main thing is to have correct settings for serial port, to enable HA control (M7CL consoles use serial port connection do console, while LS9 and newer don't need them)

MY16-ES64 manual: https://jp.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/2/334862/my16es64_en_om_c0.pdf

If you have really old SB168's you can also check if they are updated correctly and everything. More info: https://asia-latinamerica-mea.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/5/323195/sb168es_en_ug_v11a.pdf

Hope it helps!
