That old saw about not using after market speaker parts?
« on: October 04, 2018, 03:06:21 PM »

This is why.  Three Chinese imitation diaphragms made to fit an EV DH1 driver compared to an EV factory diaphragm.  All mounted to the same EV 60 x 40 horn with the same processing tailored to the stock EV.  Resurrecting a set of DeltaMaxes makes for some entertainment.

Been there, done that! (though not with EVs). Beware the aftermarket!!!

Years ago I tried some JBL aftermarkets.

Yes they fit (kinda) and made noise.

But that is where it STOPPED.  Total pieces of crap.

However, I was a huge Radian supporter when they first came out.

They made excellent diaphragms for Altec and JBL and Emilar.  I used them vs the originals

I was never a fan of their own drivers however.

There may be some good aftermarket diaphragms, but you will have to search for them.

Same thing with 3rd part projector lamps. Oh look, a third the price of a manufacturers branded lamp.

Goes 200 hours then blows up. Every time.

I had similar experience with replacing drivers for speakers which drivers are discontinued. i find it easier and cheaper to replace the 1.38" driver with anew driver that match the spec's to the original driver.

yah they will sound different (and sometimes better) but with an old cab, there is nothing to lose...
