Brian, we have wanted to put AES50 from our X32 to our S8 and S16 for years. We too use singlemode fiber. Can you share any more details or descriptions of how hard the switch to different SFPs was and what steps you took. Also the bidirectional SFP is very appealing so we don’t have to use 2 fiber strands and only have to use one. Do you mind sharing the make/model number of SFPs that worked in the 9620 with singlemode? Also I’m assuming everything from preamp controls, etc work?
Thanks a ton!!
Eddie ... if you open your 9620 you will see the small sfp is attached to a short lc to lc multi mode jumper.
simply pull this and the sfp ... we have worked with fs.com for a while now on different stuff reached out to our account rep there ... as with posts on midas's forums we initially got cisco compatible ones but no go ... we read off the sfp specs to fs.com and they were able to match it to one of their off the shelf items. i think less than 20 bucks each end.
https://www.fs.com/products/29892.html and its partner plus a short lc to lc single mode jumper.
the wdm sfp uses 1310 and 1550 but you can get in various wavelengths just be sure you get the inverse for the other end so 1310tx and 1550rx on one side would mean 1550tx and 1310rx on the other side.
you can still use the opticon connection (just need 1 of the 2 sides) and we convert everything to st anyway because thats our standard so a second short lc to st jumper and a barrel and off and running.
we also made sure we had most up to date firmware - usb flash uploader -- used a few shows already to go few thousand feet
its a standard ethernet based sfp you can rely on the stated specs ... 10km rated was enough for most of our applications ... i think we sent it through about 5000 ft of tac 4 in the shop and all seemed very happy.
