How close does one have to be to get "significant amount of RF energy"

wireless access point (Tim got there first) is similar to a wireless router but without the router functions. The actual source(s) of interference however could be any number of co-located devices operating in, and saturating, the 2.4GHz spectrum.
From what we've measured, "significant" would be any point in time the interferer's energy is no less than 12dB below a XD-V70's carrier at the [XD-V70's] receive antenna. Of course, there has to be enough energy throughout the 2.4GHz spectrum to interfere with all four of a given XD-V70 carriers.
