Desoldering components from PC boards is somewhat different than off a turret. I have a Metcal iron and a Mil-Std-2000 certification besides having spent 30 years developing advanced soldering processes. Unfortunately, I don't see too many folks, Mesa included, who use current technology PC boards and top quality laminates. I still wouldn't put tube sockets straight into boards but there are laminate materials rated at those kinds of temperatures.
