So while what we have will definitely cover the events, the ease of setup of something like a pair of SM80s or SH69/96 is worth its weight in baltic ply over having to deal with an array hang.

Yep. With right height and angle, you can get very even coverage front to back that rivals or bests an array, and still have the coherence of a single source.
