JBL SRX815p Knobs
« on: May 16, 2018, 10:01:05 AM »

Just a quick question for any JBL SRX800 series owners.  I received a pair of SRX815p's a couple of weeks ago.  I played with one and all 3 knobs felt somewhat clicky, but had an audible click when turning as well.  I assumed this was normal, but when testing the second unit the following week, the knobs basically felt the same but had no audible click to them.  Has any anyone had this experience and is it something to worry about?

No audible click with mine that I have heard- either on my SRX815's or my SRX812's. You can feel the 'clicks' though which makes it easier to make selections.

Same for my SRX 800 series cabs, no audible click.

Hmm, I had a feeling that was going to be the response, thank you both for your feedback.  In your opinions, does this justify contacting my rep for a replacement?  Or am I nitpicking here?

I don't think it would affect anything? Honestly, it should not change the function and how often are you using the knobs anyways? If it is just the physical noise I wouldn't bother, if there is some further problem (such as the knob not working) then a call would be justified.

No, it does not affect anything, just wanted to check with anyone who has them for a while to prevent an issue before it started, especially on new gear.  Thanks for that!

If you're hearing a discrete click in the loudspeaker *synchronized* with every detent you feel, whether you turn the knob fast, slow or in between - that doesn't seem right.

If you're hearing a series of clicks that don't necessarily sync up with the detent feel, that seems more like "zipper noise" and it's usually most noticeable when you turn the knob faster.  While possibly annoying it's not a defect, but typically all units of the same product would exhibit this.  That you have 2 that are different suggests we're back at the first thought.

It wouldn't hurt if you recorded a small clip of the noise and email it to your rep.  Let them know you're sending it so they'll open it instead of deleting it...

I spoke with my rep and JBL.  They said that the clicking was not normal, but could not tell me what was causing it, and to request a replacement, which my rep is setting up.

Probably for the best - you can't be too careful.

I feel better having brought it up and getting all the feedback from you folks, especially since the resolution was reasonable with my rep and JBL making it right.  Thank you all for your help, this was a great first experience participating in these forums, I appreciate your time!
